Yet again I have to say what a
fantastic night this was! The feedback we've been getting is
very positive and we're taking it on board for 2008!
The champagne reception kicked off
at 7pm and filled very quickly and set the tone for the whole
night. There was a buzz! Old friends caught up and new guests
mingled freely, everyone was set on just giving it a good time!
We were honoured to have Minister Michael Ahern TD address the
large gathering and have HE Richard O'Brien and wife Bernadette
in our presence for the 60th anniversary of our society.
The Shangri-la staff did a great
job on the food and service while we watched Lynette Rocks
school of dance put on an incredible display of Irish Dancing -
year in, year out they somehow manage to out-do themselves and
2007's set was again hard to describe in words. The roof just
lifted in the ball room when the dancers finished - great job to
all the dancers and teachers involved!
After the speeches, meal and prize
draws people just wanted to dance and our lively band
Enigma again rocked the room all night.
We were also very honoured and
pleased to have members of Comhaltas Ceolteori Eireann play at
the reception and it was fantastic to hear the National Anthem
played "live" again!
The silent auctions by Eastern Carpets and
Helping Hand Group were a huge
success and the live auction raised some eyebrows! Peoples
generosity was astounding, not only at the auctions but with the
"wishes" on the tables.
There are so many people to thank
for getting this event off the ground but sincere gratitude to
our sponsors, to the hotel and staff, to the hardworking
President, VP and committee, to our great emcee on the night
Mike Kerr but also to you our members and guests for making this
ball one of the social highlights of the year and for raising a
wonderful sum of money to our beneficiary Make-A-Wish... let's
do it again in 2008!
